Is it possible to calculate the distance from the sun to a star like this? (what I mean is can the angles from the diagram actually be calculated?)
From the diagram:
γ = ∏ - α - ∂
= ∏ - (α + ∂)
D / sin(γ) = d / sin(∂)
sin(γ) = sin(∏ - (α + ∂))
= sin(α + ∂)
D / sin(α + ∂) = d / sin(∂)
D = (sin(α + ∂) / sin(∂)) * d
From the diagram:
γ = ∏ - α - ∂
= ∏ - (α + ∂)
D / sin(γ) = d / sin(∂)
sin(γ) = sin(∏ - (α + ∂))
= sin(α + ∂)
D / sin(α + ∂) = d / sin(∂)
D = (sin(α + ∂) / sin(∂)) * d
